Whether you are a visitor to Scotland or seasoned whisky drinker you will seldom see such a fine collection of malt whisky in a Hotel or Inn. With 101 bottles of whisky, the classic malts, Talisker, Oban, Lagavulin, Dalwhinnie and Cragganmore we have many more famous and some not so well known but all recognised as the finest.
You can sit and enjoy the Malts in the comfort of the original ‘Star Inn’ uisge-beatha (whisky) bar.
The most distinctively flavoured of all malts. The island has a bountiful supply of peat which is constantly lashed by the wind, rain and sea. All these elements come through strongly in its malts, often described as seaweed, iodine or even peat monsters. In all there are eight distilleries, but not all are working. Bunnahabhain, Bruichladdich, Ardbeg, Bowmore, Cao Ila and Laphroaig are the most popular here at the Cedar Inn but there are others to explore and enjoy.
The most geographically spread out region which consequently has the most taste diversity. Many of the more northern malts have spicy or heathery characteristics whilst the Eastern Highlands are more fruity. Clynelish, Dalmore, Edradour, Glenmorangie and Old Pulteney are just a few of the Highland Malts on offer at the Cedar.
Really a sub region of Highland, but they are noted for their elegance, complexity and sweetness/mellow characteristics. More than 40 distilleries are present in this region which stretches from the River Findhorn in the West to the Deveron in the East, and takes in the Livet. Aultmore, Benrinnes, Glenlivet, Macallan and Glenrothes are all fine examples to savour in the whisky bar.
Tends to produce whiskies which are softer and more approachable, with a general lack of peatiness of its Highland cousins. The region today has only two operating distilleries. Generally much more mellow. Auchentoshan, Rosebank (rare) and Bladnoch are all Lowland Malts that are available at the Cedar Inn
